I saw Sweet Charity couple of weeks ago. I've been busy that is why I'm only doing this post now. Excuses, excuses hehe. Going back to Sweet Charity, this is the first production I've watched from 9Works Theatrical. They've presented Rent and The Wedding Singer before and I'm sure this won't be the last I'm going to see from their company. I didn't see Rent because I've already seen it before and not sure why I wasn't able to watch The Wedding Singer last year. No budget, maybe. After watching Sweet Charity, there's another theater production that I'll follow. Note to self: increase the budget for watching plays and musical theater next year.
Sweet Charity is sweet story of a dancer looking for love. Nikki Gil just stepped into the role perfectly. I saw her last year in Legally Blonde and thought that she was great but seeing her up close in Sweet Charity made me like her more. Each expression and comedic timing are just perfect, not to mention her dancing skills. When she sang "If my friends could see me now" with the baton and the hat was just great. She was able to carry the song and dance routine. I'm sure she'll do more theater works in the future, and I will definitely be there to see her.
The rest of the cast are just awesome. Sheila Valderama-Martinez, Ciara Sotto and Sheree were great as Charity's friend. Kris Lawrence is amazing Oscar, OJ Mariano with his two charater role and theater veteran Miguel Faustman as Herman.
The "Big Spender" number was dazzling. "Rich Man's Frug" dance was I don't know, I can't think of words on how to describe it, let me just say that watching it will make you want to go up to the stage and dance with them. I'm just sad with the ending of the story though, and yet just like Charity that what ever happens in life, we remain hopeful.
Favorite song would be "I'm the Bravest Individual".
